Demo at your desk – Focus on Morphologi!
Anyone who knows me internally at Malvern Panalytical or who has met me at a conference, exhibition, seminar or indeed on their own site, will know there is nothing I enjoy more than being in front of the Morphologi, demonstrating it.
I find it fascinating to find out what people do with particles, what they need to know about them, and most importantly why they need to know. Whether it’s because there is a regulatory, or a critical to quality attribute requirement to measure the particle size and/or shape, or to try and solve a problem with a process where particle size alone has not provided the answer, or simply to understand more about the particle microstructure of a mixed component blend. Often the most interesting discussions occur where there is a problem that needs solving but it is far from obvious whether the Morphologi can help. It’s always satisfying if we find it delivers a solution to the problem, but equally I am happy if we find out that actually one of our other solutions is more appropriate for the task.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to get to everyone who might want to see a demonstration of the Morphologi 4-ID, so instead, I took the opportunity to get in front of the camera and to bring you a demo direct to your own desk. You can watch me here, where I perform a Morphologically-Directed Raman Spectroscopy measurement on the Morphologi 4-ID to measure a powder blend containing several different components.
I talk through the operation of the system and describe the types of data that can be delivered including classification of the individual components, the particle size and shape distributions of each component from within the blend, and the identification of a contaminant. Oh – and of course I’d best not forget the particle images themselves.
If you would like to know about how MDRS, works please take a look at this animation.
You can also watch a more detailed video for Metal powders as used for additive manufacture. Finally, if you want to know more about why our some of our customers use Morphologi or MDRS, then I will let them tell you for themselves.
We would be very happy to find out more about why you need to measure particles. If you think we could help you solve a particle problem or help you measure your required particle parameters, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
