Chamber of Commerce Awards 2017
On Thursday 15th June 2017 a group of Malvern PANalytical employees made their way to the University Arena in Worcester to attend the Hereford and Worcester Chamber of Commerce Awards 2017. Malvern UK were very proud to be finalists in two categories, Employer of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year.
The Employer of the Year award rewards organizations that demonstrate excellence in the promotion and implementation of a learning and development culture, show commitment to the health and wellbeing of their staff, and support their local area.
The Manufacturer of the Year award is focused on innovation, environmental best practice and how the manufacturing process improves overall business performance.
We submitted our application forms for each category back in March 2017, and there followed an anxious wait to find out whether we had made it through to the final stage. To be finalists in both categories was a fantastic achievement! We then had an intense interview for each category with lots of probing questions about our processes, policies, procedures, and achievements, in order to determine the winners.
The theme of the awards ceremony was ‘Best of British’, and included a tube station reception, projections of famous British buildings onto the walls and a traditional British menu for dinner. We even received a little replica Morgan car to take home with us! Morgan are a prominent local car manufacturer. The evening was hosted by David Meade, a researcher, lecturer and public speaker. He provided the entertainment for the evening by performing an amusing mind-reading routine with intrepid volunteers from the audience.
The event also successfully raised £4,000 through a raffle and donations from each table for chosen charities The Prince’s Trust and #JSYouCanDoIt, a charity set up in memory of a Chamber of Commerce employee who tragically died at the age of twenty-three. The charity aims to improve access to university by providing small grants to students to enable them to pay for textbooks, accommodation and so on.
Then came the presenting of the awards, and whilst we didn’t win in either of our categories we were up against some very worthy competition and were pleased to have taken part in such a prestigious event. We all had a lot of fun and it was great to celebrate a successful year with other local businesses, colleagues and friends!
