Profit from new perspectives with the Hydro Insight
Whether you’re a researcher, a scientist, or a quality control manager, a comprehensive understanding of your material’s properties and behavior is the dream. Hydro Insight, our new dynamic imaging accessory, makes this a reality, offering a window to deeper materials insights.
With Hydro Insight, users benefit from Vision Analytical’s dynamic imaging expertise and Malvern Panalytical’s cutting-edge flow cell technology: the perfect partnership. Quantitative data on particle shapes and images of dispersions are generated simultaneously with laser diffraction measurements, ready for instant review. This allows you to optimize your methods more quickly, be more confident in the quality and consistency of your product, troubleshoot unexpected results, and much more.
We launched the Hydro Insight in July with a special introductory webinar, during which our experts explained how using this new accessory in combination with laser diffraction instruments – such as our Mastersizer 3000 – can enable a valuable new understanding of particles and materials. During the webinar, we received all sorts of questions about our new instrument. In this blog Anne Virden, Product Manager Micro-Materials is here to answer a few of them.
The Hydro Insight has been specifically designed to sit alongside our world-leading Mastersizer 3000 (or the Mastersizer 3000E). Using these two solutions together is the best way to understand the state of dispersion, leading to improved method development and greater confidence in the results.
This new accessory has been developed as a powerful tool for analyzing liquid particle dispersions. There are two lenses available: a low-magnification lens, which can measure wet particles in the range of 10–800 µm, and a standard magnification lens, for particles 1–300 µm in size.
Particles dispersed by the Mastersizer 3000 flow into the Hydro Insight cell, where they are photographed by a 127-frames-per-second digital camera with a resolution of up to 5 megapixels. You can capture images of the whole dispersion or of individual particles, and choose whether you want to take manual photos, automatic photos, or both.
The Hydro Insight is ideal for anyone wanting to enrich their laser diffraction measurements with particle shape and distribution data. Take metal powders for additive manufacturing, for example, images and datasets from the dynamic imaging accessory will facilitate a better assessment of their circularity. Dynamic imaging also works well as a tool to shed light on the properties of aspherical flake particles, where the aspect ratio can be hard to determine.
Sign up for our technical webinar on Thursday, September 2, 2021, where we’ll be discussing everything Hydro Insight has to offer. Join us to hear all about the value it can bring to your lab!
