Achieving fast and accurate XRF analysis of pressed cement powders

This application note shows that the compact Revontium™ XRF spectrometer can achieve accurate and repeatable analysis of major and minor components of cement samples, at a rate of 20 samples per hour.

Introduction

The accurate analysis of cement is important for several reasons, including:

  • Ensuring optimum process control with associated cost savings.
  • Minimizing and controlling contamination and environmental pollution.
  • Achieving product quality control.
  • Carrying out research into new formulations.

To achieve these aims, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) is used extensively, both for the analysis of cement and for checking the raw materials used to produce it. Simple sample preparation, high accuracy and high precision are the main reasons for this choice, but with conventional XRF instruments this comes at the expense of analytical speed, slowing down decision-making.

The Revontium™ XRF instrument resolves this issue, by providing accurate results far faster than conventional systems. In this application note, we demonstrate these capabilities by showing that Revontium can efficiently measure both major and minor compounds in pressed cement powders.
