Back by popular demand, Malvern Panalytical is pleased organise the 31st Ores and Minerals Analysis workshop - NIR edition.
Many geological and research companies are leveraging on Near Infrared (NIR) technology for real-time mine-site mapping during exploration. In this workshop, we introduce how NIR can be used as a simple, easy, portable tool to collect data in the field. Look forward to live demonstrations of ASD’s handheld instruments like the FieldSpec range, TerraSpec Halo and TerraSpec 4. Understand from industry guest speakers on how NIR can be applied in more efficient and profitable gold, bauxite and other mineral mining. Lastly understand how to collect, analyse and make sense of the data.
If you are keen to understand
- about how your company can improve in your ore recovery, process and beneficiation, then we encourage you to tune into our previous editions of the OMA. Our experts and invited speakers discuss total solutions from smart elemental to mineralogical to online bulk monitoring. Watch it on demand here.

Palestrante
Don Campbell, Applications Chemist at Malvern Panalytical, NIR
Don supports Malvern Panalytical's ASD brand of spectroradiometers. He is focused on pre and post-sale customer support, including feasibility studies and quantitative calibration development for new industrial opportunities, spectrometer installation, and customer training for chemometrics and remote sensing applications. Don has 15+ years of experience with ASD products and accessories and looks forward to helping you obtain the greatest value from your visible-near-infrared (VIS-NIR) data.
Dr Jon Huntington, CSIRO Hon Fellow and Director at Huntington Hyperspectral Pty Ltd
Jon has been involved in, first, broadband geological remote sensing and image processing in the 1970s, then pioneered airborne imaging spectroscopy during the early 80’s, field and airborne hyperspectral instrumentation and software development in the mid-90s and finally helped co-develop the HyLogging hyperspectral drill-core scanner, the TSG software package and Australia’s National Virtual Core Library. He is continues to be intimately involved in spectroscopic interpretation and training using a wide variety of instruments and data across multiple ore deposit types.
Ned Howard, Principal Geologist - Technical at Evolution Mining
Over his 8 years with Evolution, he has held geoscience and project generation roles supporting their near-mine and greenfields exploration efforts, specialising in geochemical and SWIR spectral applications across a range of gold deposit styles and geological environments. Previously, Ned worked as an exploration geologist with Barrick and junior companies in Australia, Indonesia, PNG and Canada.
Dr Luisa Ashworth, Technical Product Specialist, IMDEX
Luisa Ashworth is a Technical Product Support specialist for Automated Mineralogy (aiSIRIS) at IMDEX Ltd, where she assists and trains aiSIRIS users in the implementation of IMDEX’s cloud-based NIR spectral interpretation system across their projects. While completing her PhD in geology at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, she entered the world of hyperspectral imaging as a project geologist for TerraCore International, providing support to project logistics and operations, business development, and proof of concept studies. Following this, Dr Ashworth assumed the role of Analytical Facilities Technician at Victoria University of Wellington, where she supported academic research in the Geochemistry and Cosmogenic Nuclide laboratories. Luisa re-entered the field of infrared spectroscopy in January 2021 when she joined IMDEX Ltd as part of the aiSIRIS team. Here she continues to develop her skills in the technical aspects of the technology and the aiSIRIS service.
