Welcoming a Royal visitor
It was my great pleasure on Thursday 27 October to welcome HRH The Duke of Kent to Malvern Instruments’ headquarters, and to accept from him our 2011 Queen’s Award for Enterprise, which recognises our company’s achievements in international trade.
The Malvern team did a magnificent job of demonstrating our products and operations to both the Royal Party and civic guests as each group toured the facility. The first port of call was the Applications Laboratory where His Royal Highness accepted an invitation to start a particle size measurement on the Mastersizer 3000 by adding a few drops of a cream liqueur to the sampling system, and was intrigued to learn about the breadth of applications for particle size analysis.
It was then on to the production area where members of the operations team demonstrated how systems are assembled and tested, and through to New Product Introduction to see how we use Computer Aided Design and Computational Fluid Dynamics in product development. After finding out about Malvern’s approach to industrial design from our marketing and website team, the final stop was to hear how our systems and IT infrastructure support Malvern’s continued growth.
To round off the visit I am pleased to say that the whole team was able to gather together at the end of the tour to be a part of the formal presentation of the Queen’s Award. And I’d like to say once again how proud I am to have accepted the award on behalf of everyone throughout Malvern Instruments global organisation. Our continued success is a great tribute to all the teams in the company, and is thanks to everyone’s hard work and commitment.
A memorable day – thank you.
