The Mastersizer 3000 can work from home!

I have to be honest, this isn’t my home, the view is much more dramatic!

But it is an interesting illustration of how you might use the self-install package for the Mastersizer 3000. We started working on a self-installation program for the Mastersizer 3000 last year to enable people to start getting valuable insights into their materials as soon as possible by installing their own systems whenever was convenient.

The self-install package includes videos showing everything from how to unpack the instrument:

To install the software, setting up your dispersion units and guiding you through making measurements of a standard to check that everything is working ok.

We trialled this procedure on a few of our customers in the UK, including one customer who needed a system installed on a remote Scottish island. The feedback on the process was that the system was easy to set up despite the customer, in this case, having no previous experience with the Mastersizer, which was great for us to hear! And this Mastersizer probably has a better view than most! – see title picture.

Earlier in the year due to travel restrictions in China, our engineers were no longer able to visit customers and the self-install option has enabled important installations to continue. The feedback from our colleagues in China has been positive, and whilst some customers appreciated having one of our engineers on the phone to boost their confidence most have got on just fine on their own. With many more countries now restricting travel, we hope that the self-install option for the Mastersizer 3000 will provide not only a convenient option but an essential way for important installations to continue.

Once the system is installed, you can then follow this up with an e-learning package to tell you all about how laser diffraction instruments work and get started making particle size measurements.

The Mastersizer e-learning course is not just for new instruments and with more and more people working from home you may find you have the time to brush up on your laser diffraction knowledge. The course is split up into two sections, the first part covering the basics including running measurements, understanding what good quality data looks like and interpreting the results. The full course adds more detail on method development, setting optical properties and some advanced software features.
