Hey DDL – show us your dodgy data!

Sarennah Longworth-Cook Malvern Instruments

I’ll be manning the Malvern stand at DDL25 – the 25th Drug Delivery to the Lungs conference – which is taking place in Edinburgh next week, starting on 10th December.  I’m a technical specialist for diffraction products at Malvern, so I know the Mastersizer and Spraytec instruments inside out.  My challenge to you is to bring along your dodgy data for me to diagnose!

Got problems with your MDI? No, not your metered dose inhalers, your Method Development Investigations!  Need help with your API? I’m talking about Awkward Peak Investigations, not active ingredients!  Or are you having DPI issues? That’s Dodgy Particle Information to us.  Can you spot what’s dodgy about the data below? It’s a classic case of what we call artifact beam steering.  We can help you with all of these issues and more – just bring your data file along to the stand and I will endeavour to sort it out.

Classic case of dodgy data - artifact beam steering

Here’s how you get that data file – and it’s the data file I need, not the report:

Spraytec – open the record, file/save as a .psh file which is far smaller than the entire .smea file

Mastersizer 3000 – open the record, file/save as a .mmes file

Mastersizer 2000 – open the record, file/save as a .mea file

For any other instruments, I may need to get back to you after the conference, but do come along anyway and I will see how I can help.

You can find us at stand number 39 in the Lennox suite, where you will be able to check out the Mastersizer 3000 plus Hydro Sight, our exciting new accessory for visualising your dispersions, along with a wet dispersion unit and the new small volume measurement cell (6ml), the Hydro SV. Watch this clip from the Hydro Sight launch to see how it enables you to see your particles in real time without having to take your sample to a separate microscope.

If you can’t make it to DDL25 and have data issues you would like me to diagnose, you can send your files by email to helpdesk@malvern.com.  You can also follow all the action from the event on Twitter, using the hashtag #DDL25.
