The measurement of the "absolute" molecular weight (or molar mass) of polymers and proteins is often mentioned and referenced but what does it mean? This talk will present a summary of the solution techniques available for measurement of molecular weight and discuss how "absolute" they can be considered to be. The focus will be on light scattering techniques, both in batch mode and when incorporated with chromatography systems.
