• Ensure all vials to be attached to the Archimedes instrument are polymer-coated (Order RMM0005 from Malvern Panalytical Helpdesk for a box of 24 or contact your local Malvern Panalytical representative). These polymer-coated vials have a mottled polymer coating rather than a clear finish and provide enhanced user safety in the unlikely event of a latent defect in the vial causing a breakage.
• Before use, clean all vials with glass cleaning detergent, ensuring to remove all residue with ultra-pure water. Leave vials upside-down to prevent dust settling inside the vials while drying.
• Ensure liquid-containing vials are only filled to three quarters of their capacity.
Solution Required | Part Number | Function | Preparation Procedure |
---|---|---|---|
Standard for Micro Sensors (Serial Number: A----H) | RMM0003 | Size calibration of Micro sensors | Sonicate and dilute ~1 µm polystyrene latex in ultra-pure water to approximately 107 particles/ml |
Standard for Nano Sensors (Serial Number: D----E) | RMM0004 | Size calibration of Nano sensors | Sonicate and dilute ~500 nm polystyrene latex in ultra-pure water to approximately 108 particles/ml |
100% D2O | RMM0008 | Calculation of instrument bulk sensitivity | Ensure vial is completely dry before adding D2O |
Reference Solution | RMM0011 | Sneeze profile visualization | Dilute 1ml of 100% D2O in 14ml of ultra-pure water |
Waste vials should be empty
Screw vials into the vial ports as indicated in Figure 1.
