The battery market continues to grow steadily, pushed by the ongoing shift to more sustainable transport by governments, companies, and consumers worldwide.

Meanwhile, breakthroughs like Na ion, solid-state and alternative chemistry batteries promise to drive the appeal of battery power even further for mobility as well as stationary storage, with several major manufacturers opening pilot production lines.

As new technologies enter production and the demand for batteries continues to rise, we want to keep battery manufacturers and recyclers up to date with the latest trends and innovations. Such an opportunity is just around the corner – on May 21, 2025, we’ll be hosting the 2nd edition of Future Days: Focus on Battery!

What is Battery Future Days?

Future Days: Focus on Battery is a live studio event where we gather a panel of specialists drawn from the Malvern Panalytical team and the wider industry.

From 14:00 to 17:00 CET, we’ll be taking a deep dive into topics including the future of battery technology, enabling analytical solutions, online process control solutions, and how to these integrate into battery manufacturing and recycling.

If you’re looking for fresh insights to power your perspective on the battery research, manufacturing and recycling, you won’t want to miss this! Register here to reserve your place.

Our experts

The key ingredients of every Future Days are the panelists – and we’re excited to announce a great lineup of battery researchers and industry experts!

Margarita Merkulova, Umicore

Margarita is Program Manager in Analytics at Umicore, a leader in circular materials technology. Their unique recycling process uses a smart combination of pyro- and hydro-metallurgy, both of which rely heavily on accurate and rapid characterization of input materials as well as intermediate and final metallurgical products.

Xuehang Wang, Assistant Professor, Delft University

Xuehang is an assistant professor in Storage of Electrochemical Energy (SEE) at the Delft University of Technology. Her research looks into the mechanisms of electrochemical behavior at the interfaces, to develop high-rate operation energy storage devices.

Xuehang is also the creator of the EChem YouTube channel, with over 9,000 subscribers and over 400,000 channel views. There, you can find tutorials on analyzing electrochemical characterization data, introductions to literature related to electrochemical energy storage, and an interview series with Drexel University’s Yury Gogotsi!

Mark Huijben, MESA+ Institute of Nanotechnology of the University of Twente

In his role at the MESA+ Institute of Nanotechnology, Mark’s focus is on starting projects with both private sector companies and university research groups concerning energy storage in next-generation batteries. As a result, the University of Twente has developed strong partnerships with Dutch governmental bodies as well as research institutes such as FFB Münster.

Marco Leißing, Fraunhofer-Einrichtung Forschungsfertigung Batteriezelle FFB

Marco is the Group Leader of Quality Assurance and Laboratory Operations at the Fraunhofer Institute’s battery research cell (FFB). The Fraunhofer FFB aims to accelerate the innovation and commercialization of production technologies for existing and future cell formats. He received his doctorate from the University of Münster in 2023 for research investigating gaseous decomposition products evolving from lithium-ion battery electrolytes using gas chromatographic techniques.

Umesh Tiwari, Malvern Panalytical

Umesh is the Sustainable Energy global segment manager at Malvern Panalytical. His expertise is in the structural, elemental, and morphological characterization of powder, slurry, and finished materials, including online monitoring for process and quality controls.

Jeff Hrivnak, Malvern Panalytical

Jeff is the Director of Market Development at Malvern Panalytical. With over 25 years of experience in the advanced materials and analytical instruments industries, Jeff will be sharing his insights into the past, present, and future of battery analytics.
