Behind the scenes at Achema

Although I’ve now organized half a dozen Achemas and close to 40 exhibitions in total, Achema is still exciting for me, being the biggest chemistry, mechanical engineering, and now biological engineering show in Europe with a worldwide audience.

Preparation has kept me busy for the last few weeks and even last weekend setting up the stand. The whole team was looking forward to Monday morning when the show started. My nerves normally disappear when the stand looks good and the first visitors arrive.

We left the hotel early on Monday morning to be there in time. But then the train suddenly ground to a halt, nothing moved and there was the announcement that somebody had pulled the emergency brakes and it might take a while before we could continue. I became even more nervous. But finally we managed to be there in time.

The show started with a lot of international visitors, who had obviously already travelled to Frankfurt over the weekend. And when a customer who has used laser diffraction for a very long time saw our Mastersizer 3000 and said that it is a really impressive good looking instrument, my first day at Achema turned out much better than I expected.

 
At the show, Malvern experts are available to explain particle characterization, rheology and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) – and the link between these parameters when it comes to material characterization.
