Handy hints for developing robust methods for wet and dry particle size measurements
One of the most important factors determining the robustness of a particle size measurement is the use of an appropriate method for the intended measurement goal.
One possible consequence of an inappropriate method could be that the results are not sufficiently robust to detect significant variations in product quality, leading to either unnecessary scrapping of good product or potentially even worse, unknowingly shipping substandard product. Effort spent on developing the right method for your application can therefore be time extremely well spent which will repay itself many fold in the long run.
In order to help our customers develop appropriate methods for their laser diffraction instrumentation, my colleague Anne Virden has recently written two application notes covering method development for both wet or liquid dispersion, and dry powder dispersion.
