How to network in challenging times – OMA goes virtual
Before I start, this blog is NOT about how to be a great virtual grandparent since, in many European languages, OMA means grandmother.
OMA stands for Ore and Minerals Analysis. Under this name, over the last five years, we have successfully organized 20 OMA workshops on five continents. Due to Covid-19, we had to change our plans for 2020 and decided to run the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th editions as virtual events. Now with a bonus 25th OMA scheduled for November 24th and 25th
The goal of the OMA workshops is to network with the experts from the mining industry, research institutions and equipment suppliers. Having a well-established network has become an important part of our lives, even more in times where a pandemic forces most of the people to work in isolation from home.
For myself, networking does not only help to stay on top of the latest trends in the mining industry but is also an excellent source to get fresh ideas and new perspectives. Networking means for me forming trust and helping one another towards solving problems or reaching goals. Often, I have developed long-lasting personal relationships since networking contacts are very often like-minded people with similar ideas and goals.
For our OMA workshops, it was challenging to create a format that works as well as virtual event.
We decided to host four virtual OMAs in different time zones and languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish). Two OMAs were held in July, and two more will be held in September and another in November.
For the 25th bonus edition 16 people from across Europe have confirmed presentations about trends and analytical news in the mining and minerals industry.
